Frequently Asked Questions
I hope we can answer most questions here... |

What is included when I order a canvas print?
Minor retouching is included, we always optimise the image for the best results. This includes: Exposure correction so the highlights, whites, blacks, and shadows are near what they should be. We may sharpen the image, resize and format the image to the size needed for your print size and proportion and remove any date stamp. We can change your image to sepia or perform any other correction you require at no extra cost.
If you strictly want us NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING please say so (we won't be offended). |
|
How do you want the images for calendars?
We can accept files in nearly any format. jpg is fine, as is tiff, psd or eps. Please bear in mind that the image area on most of the range is LANDSCAPE so if you want it to fill the whole area please crop your images acordingly. |
|
Proportion?
In order not to distort your image when we enlarge it, the image must remain in proportion to its original proportions. If we have to crop large areas of the image, we will proof it by email with you before printing. If you require the image to be printed in any way other than it has been sent to us (ie change to mono) then please let us know. |

What size of photo file is best for producing a canvas?
Any photograph can be enlarged. In nearly every case, your picture is being enlarged to fit the canvas. Please remember that the larger and sharper the image to start with, the better the outcome. Small marks and scratches on the photograph may be magnified - but we'll do our best to clean these out. If you want A1 or larger your jpeg file should be about 5-10 megabytes and in any case, the top setting your camera goes to. If we scan your photo we usually blow it up to full size and can scan at resolutions up to 4000dpi to get the very best possible from your original. You can send files of any size on our system (but please try to keep below 30Meg as any extra detail would not be noticed over this size)

What format should the files be?
jpeg (.jpg) is probably best, though we want to point out that a small jpeg blown to a large size may not come out at the best quality and will be quite grainy. A raw .jpg file that is around 2Meg will be OK for canvasses up to A3 and 5 or 6 Meg for A2 and larger sizes. Any smaller, we do struggle to get the best out of it. We can open any other kind of file so don't worry. Please don't send .bmp files as they seem to have life of their own...
Having said that, we really don't like Word or Corel or Publisher documents for this, just the original picture please. |
|
How do I care for the canvas print?
Your canvas print should be treated as you would any piece of art. You can, unlike those print made by some others, wipe clean your print with no trouble. We have even washed on in a washing machine! (Though you need to take it off the frame first!) |
|
How should I send you photographs or artwork
We accept digital image files on CD, DVD, Zip, USB key ring thingy, by attachment to an email, or (preferably) through our file transfer system on the website.
If you have photographs or artwork to send, please ensure that it is packed in a decent rigid envelope and wrapped as necessary. We cannot be held responsible for postal damage but I can promise you right now that once it reaches our factory we will treat it with the love and care that we give our own children. |
|
Can have a color photo made black & white?
Yes, colour or black and white is the same price. When converting to black and white, by the way, we don't just select 'greyscale' and be done with it, oh no, we reset all the highlights, midtones and shadows to enure stunning results. The more contrasty a photo the more it suits mono reproduction generally. Please make your selection when ordering on the canvas page. |

About scanning
If you are scanning in your own picture, please, please ensure that your scanner glass is clean and check for any scratches or dust once scanned, as these things really show up when the picture is blown up.

How about really old or damaged photos?
We love doing these. The results are never, ever any worse that the original. By that we mean we repair scratches, fill in blank areas from rips where possible and breathe lots of new life into those old grainy pictures. A medium size canvas of a family member, sometimes the only picture surviving can make an exceptionally poignant gift. We have taken orders where from one original, six or more copies have then been send to family members worldwide. |
